I will NEVER forget September 11, 2001.
I had worked an overnight shift at my EMS job and was asleep when my wife called from her job and asked, "What the hell is going on in New York?" My father was flying out of Newark on business that morning and saw the North Tower burning when his plane took off.
I spent hours watching the coverage, calling my dad's cellphone to try to get ahold of him, and then had to try to get some sleep before another overnight shift in my city that night. My dad's plane had to land in Ohio; he banded together with others from our area, and they all drove home in a rental car.
My city was unusually quiet that night, but those of us in public safety were unusually focused and quietly angry, as were the folks who worked in my city's hospitals.
Today is the 25th anniversary of that day, my generation's Pearl Harbor Day.
Do I blame ALL Muslims for what happened that day? Absolutely not; that seems as ridiculous to me as blaming all Japanese for Pearl Harbor.
