This is not an AI story. It is a technological alternate history inspired by a paper I wrote years ago. In 1995, Novell faces a defining choice: sell UNIX or build an open foundation beneath NDS, GroupWise, clustering, management, and the desktop. The Line That Never Widened follows the future created when one corporate decision changes—without miracles, vanished competitors, or technology appearing before its time.
