Chapter 1: The Night I Was Rejected

The night was supposed to be mine.

Instead ... it became the night that destroyed me.

The entire pack stood beneath the silver glow of the full moon, their voices rising in celebration as the drums echoed through the valley. Lanterns flickered in the wind, casting golden light over smiling faces.

All of it ... for me.

For my mating ceremony.

My hands trembled slightly as I stepped forward, my white dress brushing softly against the ground. Every heartbeat in my chest felt louder than the drums. Tonight, I would finally stand beside the man the Moon Goddess had chosen for me.

Alpha Kael Draven.

Powerful. Untouchable. Feared by all.

And ... my mate.

A soft gasp escaped my lips the moment he walked into the circle.

He looked exactly as he always did cold, breathtaking, distant. His black shirt clung to his broad shoulders, his sharp jaw set as if carved from stone. But tonight ... there was something else in his eyes.

Something I couldn’t understand.

My wolf stirred inside me, restless ... anxious.

Why does he look like that?

I pushed the thought away and forced a small smile.

This was my moment. Our moment.

The elders stepped forward, their voices deep and ceremonial.

“Under the sacred moon, we gather to witness the union of fated mates...”

My heart pounded harder with every word.

Kael stepped closer.

Closer.

Closer

And then he stopped.

Right in front of me.

For a brief second, our eyes met.

I felt it.

That pull. That undeniable connection. The bond that tied my soul to his.

My lips parted, a whisper trembling on them.

“Kael...”

But his expression didn’t soften.

It hardened.

The air shifted.

Something was wrong.

Very wrong.

The murmurs of the crowd began to fade into an uneasy silence as Kael straightened, his voice cutting through the night like a blade.

Cold. Sharp. Merciless.

“I, Alpha Kael Draven...”

My breath hitched.

“No...” I whispered under my breath.

Not like this.

Not now.

“I reject you, Lira Vale ... as my mate.”

The world stopped.

No sound.

No movement.

Nothing.

Just those words ... echoing endlessly in my head.

I reject you.

My knees nearly gave out beneath me.

“What...?” My voice broke, barely audible. “Kael ... what are you saying?”
