Chapter 18

Serena Blake was furious. She had just said the item was priceless, and now this damned rogue was trying to persuade her to accept it. He’s clearly just greedy.

Serena’s mother was also visibly displeased. She never thought Ethan would be the type to be blinded by money. Already disappointed in him, she now felt even more so.

Julian Voss, however, sneered inwardly. I was just wondering how to convince Serena to accept this gift, and this stinky beggar took the initiative to do it for me. He must have heard her say how valuable it was and got greedy. What a piece of trash.

“Honey, don’t be angry,” Ethan continued to persuade. “Julian already apologized for yesterday, and this is a wedding gift for us. It would really hurt his feelings if we refused. Besides, you two are friends. I don’t want our relationship to complicate yours.”

Julian sneered again. This damned beggar is an absolute angel.

Suppressing his excitement, Julian said in a deep voice, “Ethan is right, Serena. We’re friends, after all. I’d be really hurt if you didn’t accept it.”

Serena was trapped in a dilemma. Her pretty face contorted with fury as she glared at Ethan. This damned rogue is more of a hindrance than a help! If he hadn’t meddled, it wouldn’t be this hard to refuse Julian. But now I’m completely on the spot, caught in a bind.

Seeing Serena’s predicament, her mother spoke softly, “Serena, Julian is right. You’re friends, so just accept it. When he gets married, you can repay him with a gift of your own!”

Hearing her mother’s words, Serena gave a helpless nod.

“Julian, I’ll accept it. Thank you for your kindness. Rest assured, when you get married, I will certainly repay you with a gift of double the value!”

At these words, Julian trembled with excitement. Soon, Serena’s good fortune will flow madly toward me! The thought made it impossible for Julian to control his emotions, and he couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

“Eh, Young Master Voss, your laugh sounds a bit like a scheme just succeeded, doesn’t it?” Ethan asked deliberately.

Julian’s heart skipped a beat. He realized he’d gotten carried away. He quickly reined in his wild laughter and shot Ethan a disdainful glance. “What do you know? I’m just happy. Serena, thank you for accepting my gift. From now on, we are still friends!”

Serena gave a cool nod.

“Well, if that’s the case, I won’t disturb you any longer,” Julian said softly.

Serena quickly replied, “I’ll see you out!”

A guest was a guest. Furthermore, after accepting such an expensive gift, it was only right and proper to see him off.

Julian, however, refused. “Serena, there’s no need to be so polite. Just remember, we’re friends!”

At these words, Serena’s mother couldn’t help but sigh. Such a fine young man. It’s a pity my daughter wasn’t fortunate enough to marry him.

After Julian left, Serena closed the box he had brought.

“Mom, please put this away.”

“You’re not going to use it, Serena?” her mother asked, puzzled.

Serena nodded. “Mom, I’m planning to find a chance to return it.”

Serena’s mother knew her daughter well. She understood that Serena didn’t want to be indebted to Julian, which was why she intended to give the gift back. Realizing this, she didn’t try to persuade her further.

Just then, Ethan suddenly chuckled. “If it’s a gift for us, why return it? Honey, if you don’t want to use it, why not let me?”

Serena flared up instantly. I just said I was going to find a chance to return it, and now he dares to say something like that!

Her mother was even more displeased. Thinking of the greedy look on Ethan’s face earlier, she said coldly, “Ethan, can’t you show some backbone? Serena wants to return it because she doesn’t want to owe anyone a favor. Yet you have the nerve to say such a thing! What, have you never seen anything valuable before?”

Ethan was speechless. Me, never seen anything valuable? Damn it all, my grandmaster built a treasure chamber in the Shadowpeak Mountains. It wasn’t large, a mere two thousand square meters, but it housed all the greatest treasures from across the continent since ancient times. Ancient calligraphy and paintings were the least of it; it even contained the famous Imperial Seal! The inscription on it read, “Mandated by Heaven, Long and Prosperous Shall Be the Reign.” I only want this thing from Julian to break the cursed artifact they secretly placed inside. How did that become “never seeing anything valuable” in my mother-in-law’s mouth?

However, Ethan couldn’t be bothered to argue. After all, they wouldn’t believe anything he said.

“Mom, don’t be angry. I was just joking,” Ethan said with a smile. “This thing is probably worth more than my life. I couldn’t bear to use it!”

Serena’s mother snorted. “It’s good that you know your place!”

Perhaps feeling her mother’s words were too harsh, Serena said coolly, “Mom, no matter how valuable it is, it’s just an object. How could it be worth more than a person’s life?”

Her mother knew Serena was defending Ethan and sighed helplessly. It’s not that I’m angry with Serena, I just think my daughter is far too kind.

“Take this and follow me upstairs,” Serena said coldly.

“As you command!” Ethan replied with a grin.

As he lifted the box, Ethan discreetly flicked a drop of his golden Dragon Blood into it. With this drop, the cursed artifact they had set up would be instantly destroyed. In other words, that piece of trash was about to suffer an even more brutal backlash.

After leaving the Blake family villa, Julian quickly got into his car. Unable to contain his excitement any longer, he burst into a fit of wild laughter. The thought of Serena’s good fortune flooding toward him like a torrent made him tremble with excitement.

After driving for a short while, his phone rang. It was his father. Julian answered immediately.

“Dad, it’s done!” he exclaimed excitedly before his father could even speak.

The man on the other end grew excited as well. “That bitch took it?” he asked eagerly.

“Yes, she took it,” Julian said proudly. “It won’t be long now before we’ve drained all her good fortune. She’ll be dead for sure! I was worried that stinky beggar might notice something, but he didn’t see a thing.”

“How could a stinky beggar possibly detect such an advanced cursed artifact? Yesterday must have been a fluke. Julian, your father must celebrate this properly with you.”

Julian laughed. “We definitely should celebrate. That damned beggar almost scared me to death yesterday. Thank god everything went perfectly today!”

“Never mind that trash. Your third uncle says the men from Crimson Blade Hall have arrived. Today is his day to die!”

“Excellent! After that piece of trash is dead, I’m going to grind him into mincemeat! I’ll...”

Before he could finish his sentence...

SPURT.

Like a fountain, Julian’s mouth began to spray blood violently.

Back at the villa, Ethan entered Serena’s room.

“Wife, where should I put these things?” Ethan asked with a smile.

Serena said indifferently, “Just put them on the floor. I have something to tell you.”

Ethan placed the items on the floor.

He asked with a smile, “Wife, what is it?”

Serena spoke gravely, “I want to apologize to you on my mother’s behalf.”

Ethan looked at Serena, completely bewildered.

“Wife, what are you talking about?”

Serena’s expression dimmed.
